Jenny began her teaching career at Rockdale Temple Religious School in 1994 in Cincinnati, OH, teaching grades 6 and 7, and was awarded the Willard Kahn Award for Teaching Excellence. During that time, Jenny also taught grades 9-11at the Cincinnati Reform Jewish High School. When she moved back to Victoria in 1999, she was hired as Director of Education at both Kolot Mayim Reform Temple and the Central Vancouver Island Jewish Community School in Nanaimo.
In addition to being the Director of Education, Jenny served her Victoria congregation by performing all rabbinic duties except conversions. As we were a small congregation without a rabbi, she received training from Hebrew Union College as a Sh’lichat K’hillah. In addition to leading Shabbat and holiday services, Jenny prepared and lead b’nai mitzvah services and all other life cycle events, and provided pastoral counseling. In that position, she represented the congregation on the Victoria Rabbis Council, the Victoria Multifaith Society, and the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee.
Since coming to Calgary in 2013, Temple B’nai Tikvah has been her spiritual home, and she has been delighted to become an active part of the community. Teaching, and in particular working with teachers, has been a passion and an avocation for most of Jenny’s adult life, so it seems a perfect fit to continue this career at the congregation she loves, working with an established and successful staff and program.
