Temple B’nai Tikvah is thrilled to invite the Calgary Jewish community to join us
for a staged reading of David Sklar’s award-winning play Vial on
Monday, June 5 at 7:00 PM.
Following the performance, David will lead a talkback session. The evening will end with a chance to discuss the themes of the play further over refreshments.
Vial is about Sara, a professor, and soon-to-be-mom, who is forced to choose between duty to her career and allegiance to her tribe. The play explores the rabbit hole that is Jewish identity, and the tensions and conflicts inherent in deciding who gets to call themselves Jewish. Sklar was inspired to write his award-winning play by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel’s desire to use DNA testing as a means to prove “Jewishness” and recent events at the University of Toronto regarding the politics involved with donations.
