Volunteer Opportunities

At Temple B’nai Tikvah, Jewish values and wisdom are deeply embedded in a variety of Temple activities. Our committees provide many opportunities for warm, meaningful engagement.

The Temple Board governs the affairs of the Temple and manages our finances and property. They also make policy decisions and, importantly, take action to promote the welfare of our synagogue.

The Board meets once a month in the evenings. If you are interested in being part of this important and necessary group or just want more information, please contact Sid Horovitz, Chair of the Nominations Committee, or Rebecca Silverberg, Temple President.

  • Ritual – The Ritual Committee consults with the rabbi to consider the rituals and observances of the synagogue and to promote practices in the home to enhance the values of Jewish living. The committee also provides a forum for congregants to raise concerns or suggest areas of interest for further consideration by the rabbi and the committee.
  • Shabbat School – The Shabbat School committee works with the Temple’s Rabbi, Educator and other committees to celebrate Jewish holidays and put on special programs for children and youth.
  • Social Engagement – The Social Engagement Committee enhances Jewish life with celebrations, entertainment, and cultural events.
  • Social Action – The Social Action Committee coordinates a variety of social action projects that serve the Calgary community and the Jewish community, and that reach beyond our borders to serve needs throughout the world. Over a third of our members participate in a social action project each year.
